With her album 99cents having dropped last Friday, Santigold played a short set at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade NYC. Despite a late start, Santi jumped right into it with the new track “Can’t Get Enough of Myself.” The singer, backed by a DJ and two dancers vogued their way through some new songs and crowd favorites like “Disparate Youth” and “Creator.” Where much of her shows off her first two records saw the singer backed by a full band, Santi has instead allowed for the massive arrangements to be handled in a more digital way, reflected in both the themes off 99cents and even the more electronic sound. With her roots fronting a ska group, Santi forgoes this approach in her live setup to instead feature the dancers and her routines.

In the truly intimate setting, it wouldn’t be a Santigold show without the entire crowd leaping on stage, transforming Rough Trade into a massive party. The next time Santigold is expected to play NYC is at the much larger Hammerstein Ballroom, which will see a different environment for her first proper New York show since her 2012 record was released.
